Prevue

Should you hire this job candidate?

What is this candidate not telling you?

What do you absolutely need to know before you hire anyone?

What is the Prevue?

If you are like most employers, you have a few star employees, a competent but unspectacular majority, and some bottom dwellers.  The star employees consistently out-produce, out-sell, out-work, and out-hustle everyone else.  When you give one of these star employees an assignment, you can sleep well at night knowing they will do the job right.  You would like to hire more people like these star employees, but you typically have to hire eight people to get one star.  You need tools to dramatically improve these odds.

The Prevue is this tool.  Conceptually, the Prevue is Simple.  It is a one hour questionnaire that measures abilities, motivations/interests, and personality.  You give this questionnaire to your top people on a job and it creates a benchmark for the type of person who is likely to be successful at that job.  If you do not have a good pool of top performers to draw from, you can create a benchmark based upon questionnaires about the requirements for this job.  After you get your benchmark, you have applicants complete the questionnaire.  The Prevue will then compare the applicant to the benchmark and will be able to give you reports indicating the strengths and weaknesses of the applicant as it relates to the job.  In addition to being an outstanding hiring tool, the Prevue can also assist you with coaching, promoting, and succession planning.

The Center for Creative Management can use the Prevue as the foundation for helping you develop a hiring program that can increase your chances of hiring a star performer from 14% to 75%.

Is the Prevue valid, reliable and legal?

The Prevue  was developed by Dr. David Bartram and Dr. Patricia Lindley, world-renowned experts in the field of psychometric assessment.  It has been subjected to rigorous statistical analysis and found both valid and reliable.  It has been approved for use in employment decisions by the EEOC.

The current Prevue Assessment is the latest generation of this widely used assessment, with significant reporting enhancements that provide highly reliable information on an individual's tendencies, such as seeing opportunities or drawbacks in a situation, risk taking, resisting change, and preferred compensation preferences.

The Center for Creative Management is the only authorized reseller for the Prevue located in the St. Louis metropolitan area.  CFCM will provide free upgrades to any existing Prevue user for both software and unused meters.  All applicant data and benchmarks are automatically upgraded to the Prevue upon installation.

What are the on-line capabilities of the Prevue?

The Internet version of the Prevue Assessment of the Prevue Assessment is now available.  The on-line version allows a Prevue Administrator to e-mail the assessment to a remote administration site anywhere a candidate needs to be evaluated.  The Prevue On-Screen Assessment provides complete instructions and automatically times the four critical abilities sections of the Prevue Assessment.

The Prevue On-Screen Assessment is paperless and administered directly on a PC or workstation.  Completed assessments are simply e-mailed back to the Prevue Administrator for processing and reviewed.

What reports does the Prevue provide?

Prevue produces five different reports from an individual's responses :

1.         Selection report (see graph above)

·        Graphically demonstrates how candidates compare to your benchmark

·        Gives behavioral-based questions you can use immediately to zero in on candidates weaknesses

·        Gives Overall Benchmark Suitability Scores.

 2.         Coaching Report

·        Graphically shows where employees need improvement when compared to your benchmark

·        Gives suggestions on how to address employees weaknesses

 3.         Succession and Career Planning Report

·        Compares a single employee to benchmarks for multiple positions

·        Compares multiple employees to a single benchmark

·        Allows management and employees to plan their growth within your organization

·        Graphically shows where employees need improvement when compared to each benchmark

 4.         Working Characteristics

Answers the following important questions :

·        Does this person prefer a fixed salary or flexible income?

·        Is this person inclined to take risks?

·        Does this person live to work or work to live?

 5.         Individual Report

·        Shows person's individual scores on all areas without comparison to a benchmark

·        Describes "Total Person" in positive language

·        Provides employers with a non-threatening report to give to job candidates

How does the Prevue compare to the typical assessments provided by psychologists?

For years, psychologists have known that there are three major dimensions to a good hire?

  • Abilities.  How quickly does a candidate learn?  In today's fast-paced economy, you may not have the time for a slow learner.  On the other hand, if a bright candidate is not challenged by a job, he/she is not likely to stay with it.

  • Motivation/Interests.  If a candidate likes a job, he/she is more likely to excel and more likely to be a long-term employee.

  • Personality.  Different personality types are better at different types of jobs.  A good salesperson and a good customer service representative frequently have different personality profiles.  Moreover, a successful profile for a job in one company or region may differ from a successful profile for a similar job for a different company or region.

Typically, the psychologist will administer at least three separate assessments:  one for abilities, one for interests, and one for personality.  The psychologist will then combine the results of these three tests into a report.  While this process can provide significant value to employers, there are three major disadvantages:

  • It can be expensive, frequently costing over $1,000 per applicant.

  • It can be a grueling experience for the applicant lasting many hours.  In a competitive job market, the negative experience can jeopardize the employer's chances of hiring a top candidate.

  • It can be very slow, with results arriving many days after the assessments are taken.  This delay can cause serious problems if a fast decision is required, either by the employer or the applicant.

In contrast, the Prevue is a single assessment that can be taken in one hour and scored immediately by the employer so the results are available while the candidate is still on site.  The cost is approximately 10% of the cost of using a psychologist directly.  CFCM can train the employer in the interpretation of the Prevue.  Additionally, Dr. Suellen Meyer Koppel of CFCM has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology and she can be consulted on the results of any assessment when the employer believes her expertise is needed.
